The Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Dual Time Watch is the Ultimate Travelling Companion
Globetrotting with Jaquet Droz’s newest timepiece
The new Grande Seconde Dual Time is a timepiece worthy of Jaquet Droz. The first thing that catches the eye is the powdery finished globe with a rendering of the continents seen flat from the North Pole in an azimuthal projection; contrasting the continents is a mirror-finish backdrop of either black or anthracite.
The timepiece was made for travellers. The smaller off-centred dial contains the hours and minutes of the set local time, regulated by jumps of an hour that make it quicker to set time on arrival. The date adjusts automatically to the change. The larger dial indicates three functions: an outer chapter ring for the seconds; a slightly inclined ring for the date indicated by a lacquered red-tipped ring; and a slightly recessed innermost ring that features a two-tone 24-hour scale for home time, indicated by a red triangle on the date counter.
The watch comes in four variations: two in 18k red gold and two in stainless steel. The stainless steel variations come with either a silver opaline dial or black onyx dial, and come with a stainless steel clasp. As for the red-gold models, they have a striking black or ivory Grand Feu enamel dials, and come with a red gold ardillon buckle. All four variations also come with handmade alligator straps.
