Porsche’s Taycan Prowess Is Complete With Three New Additions

Porsche adds to the second Taycan generation.

By Robert Stedman

In early 2024, Porsche made significant upgrades to its luxury Taycan EV, giving it a more angular design, increased power, increased range, and improved charging capabilities. The 16-version family is now complete with three more versions.

The three new models naturally have all of the many enhancements in terms of design, technology and equipment with which Porsche updated the Taycan at the beginning of the year. The new models have more power, longer range, accelerate faster, charge in less time and have greater stability. And all Taycan versions feature an even more extensive list of standard equipment.

GTS stands for Gran Turismo Sport and now there is also a variant in the Taycan model line up. As a sporty all-rounder, the Taycan GTS impresses with up to 515 kW of overboost power when using Launch Control – 75 kW more than its predecessor. Launch control is Porsche’s electronic aid to assist drivers of both racing and street cars to accelerate from a standing start.

The two models, Taycan GTS sports sedan and Taycan GTS Sport Turismo, flash to 100 km/h, from a standstill in just 3.3 seconds – 0.4 seconds faster than the older models. The range has also been improved by over 120 kilometres and is currently up to 628 kilometres.

The third model is the new Taycan 4, which is the efficient range champ among all-wheel drive Porsche models. In terms of performance, this new Taycan 4  has a range up to 643 km. With one electric motor on the front and rear axles, the Taycan 4 offers greater driving stability and more traction than the rear-wheel-drive Taycan.

The improvement of performance and efficiency for the new Taycan models is due to a number of factors: an advanced powertrain with a new rear-axle motor with up to 107 hp more power than its predecessor on all models, a modified pulse inverter with optimised software, more powerful batteries, revised thermal management, a next-generation heat pump, increased recuperation and optional all-wheel-drive strategy. More importantly, at 800-volt DC charging stations, the Taycan models can charge at 320 kW, making it one of the quickest-charging EVs around. Driving an EV, or a Porsche has never been more fun.
